McCabe Retires

Wildlife Management Institute Vice President Dick McCabe informed the WMI Board of Directors of his retirement, effective January 15, 2012.

Dick served the Institute for 35 years, initially as its Director of Publications. In 1988, he was appointed Secretary and then, in 1999, Vice President. He served from 2004 to 2008 as Executive Vice President. Following WMI's departure from a Washington, DC, headquarters, his title reverted to Vice President.

McCabe coordinated the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference from 1986 to 2007 and was the event's program chair from 2006 until this year. He edited and produced more than 50 booklets, 26 books and more than 35 technical reports for WMI. He edited the Transactions of the North American Conference for 14 years, wrote three books and has edited the "Outdoor News Bulletin" since 2000.

In 2004, Dick developed the Conservation Leaders for Tomorrow program?a joint effort of WMI and the Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation. He led the program until 2009 and currently serves as its senior advisor.

Dick will continue to work with WMI on occasional assignments, but plans to spend as much time as possible hunting, fishing and loafing with family and friends. He also will continue a protracted apprenticeship in the complex art and science of mucking horse stalls, at which, according to wife Jami, he has Olympic potential.

Jami, Dick and their growing herd of large and small pets, reside happily in rural Kansas.
