BLM Comment Period on Planning Regulations Open Until July 24
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced in early July that it was opening a 21-day comment period on land use planning and environmental reviews. The agency’s efforts come after President Trump signed a resolution under the Congressional Review Act that ended what was known as “Planning 2.0”. The agency is specifically seeking input on how to make the review process more efficient, timely, and less expensive and to ensure that the process is responsive to local needs. Comments are open until July 24 and can be submitted online.
“The decisions made in land use plans and environmental reviews are fundamental to how public lands and resources are used for the benefit of all Americans,” said U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke. “The Trump Administration and the Department of the Interior are committed to working with state and local governments, communities, Indian tribes, and other stakeholders as true partners to determine the best ways to accomplish this, now and into the future.”
