On May 24, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell announced that her department will provide $10 million in funding for the Wildland Fire Resilient Landscapes Program in an effort to mitigate the impacts of wildfire and climate change. The department selected 10 projects, known as Resilient Landscape Collaboratives, through a competitive evaluation process for this initial round of funding. These projects, located in eight western states and in the longleaf pine habitats of the southeast, focus on a variety of landscape conservation efforts including conifer removal, sagebrush and grass/forb restoration, prescribed burns, and more.

"These projects will protect the nation's diverse landscapes making them more resilient to wildfire for future generations; with help from our partners who also recognize that this challenge is too great for any one organization to tackle on its own," Secretary Jewell said in a statement. "The funding restores iconic landscapes and vital watersheds, reduces fuels and controls invasive species to re-establish native vegetation, while reducing the risks to the public and our firefighters who respond to wildland fires."
