Urban Wildlife Conservation in Cities and Suburbs: Pollinators, Agriculture and the Great Midwest
Tuesday, March 10, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
This workshop will focus on protecting and restoring wildlife habitat in our cities and suburbs, with particular emphasis on the role of pollinating bees, butterflies and birds at people's homes and in community gardens. Pollinator conservation has become a keystone focus for biodiversity conservation, urban sustainability and ensuring agricultural sustainability worldwide. Urban areas can support pollinator habitat connectivity within ecological landscapes and serve as a refuge for species impacted by habitat loss. This session will bring together new partners in urban conservation and reunite colleagues working in this critical arena. Expand your networks and learn the very latest on monarch and native bee conservation (including a new Monarch campaign), urban agriculture and agricultural practices that support wildlife habitat, State Wildlife Action Plan pollinator conservation efforts, and creative funding approaches. Get a sneak preview of a new website that will help gardeners and nature lovers to grow native plants for wildlife habitat! Sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service, National Wildlife Federation, Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies, and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

Implementing Landscape-scale Approaches to Mitigation and Renewable Energy: A Roundtable on Lessons Learned
Tuesday, March 10, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Over the last year, a number of NGO partners have hosted several workshops exploring the implementation of DOI Secretarial Order 3330: "Improving Mitigation Policies and Practices at the Department of Interior." Defenders of Wildlife, Natural Resources Defense Council, and The Wilderness Society will host this workshop in order to continue the conversation and build off of those previous discussions. Participants are invited to ask and answer questions as we discuss: key themes and lessons learned from on-the-ground mitigation efforts, including examples of different regional approaches; strategies for effective stakeholder engagement and interagency coordination; and next steps for implementing the Mitigation Strategy Secretarial Report. Please join us to discuss your experiences with the specific challenges and steps to integrating science and policy at a landscape-scale for better mitigation of habitat values.

Recruiting Female Natural Resource Leaders
Tuesday, March 10, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
The goal of this workshop is to generate greater awareness about how female conservation professionals can better prepare themselves for leadership positions in natural resource conservation and management. At this highly engaging workshop, two recruiters will offer their insights into the process they use for recruiting conservation leaders and how candidates can avoid common stumbling blocks. They will speak specifically to issues that they have encountered first hand, emphasizing those that are critical to women wishing to advance in their field. Examples include the common ways women undersell themselves, how women can more effectively describe their accomplishment, negotiating equitable compensation, and overall recommendations for how women can empower themselves to be stronger candidates for leadership roles. Following speaker presentations, workshop participants will break into smaller groups to review and practice the tips and tools presented by the recruiters.
