In 2019-20, the Wildlife Management Institute worked with state partners from Arizona Game and Fish Department, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to secure one of the multistate conservation grants awarded annually by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. The purpose of that ~$150,000, one-year grant was to develop short-form recruitment videos designed for multiple social media platforms with Millennials and Generation Z as their primary targets. Although the emergence of COVID-19 in late 2019 caused unavoidable delays in completing this project, it is now in its final stages of completion.

Building on its 2019 success of leveraging over $400,000 for critically needed CWD management research, a funding collaborative of CWD Alliance Partners has once again proven their commitment to helping CWD managers battle CWD with science-based solutions.

On Oct. 22, 2021, a judge halted Wisconsin’s fall wolf season two weeks before hunters were set to take to the woods, siding with wildlife advocacy groups that argued holding the hunt would be unconstitutional.

Little is understood about the behavior, location, and habitat preferences of juvenile Gulf sturgeon. To learn more about this prehistoric fish, the Florida Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at the University of Florida, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are studying Gulf sturgeon in the Choctawhatchee River, one of seven freshwater systems stretching from the Pearl River in Louisiana to the Suwannee River in Florida. The Pascagoula, Escambia, Yellow, and Apalachicola rivers are the other four waterways being researched.
